It seems sometimes that life is just one long intensive journey to find out who we really are. Each of us is constantly searching deep within ourselves to find our authentic selves. In this article, I am going to give you some ideas on how to better achieve this goal, and how to discover parts of yourself that you didn't know existed!
The first part of self-discovery is always inner reflection. That is, looking inside of ourselves to see what is there. One of the very best ways to achieve this is by journaling. Have you ever kept a journal or a diary? Do you keep one now? If not, now is a great time to start!
Keeping a journal is one way to self-discovery, but there are other ways that are more external than internal. One of the most simple methods of self-discovery is one that most of us take for granted...our friends! Our friends our mirrors of ourselves. They are our sounding boards, and reflections of ourselves. A simple meaningful conversation with a friend can tell you lots of information about yourself if you only pay attention!
Getting involved with groups or activities will also help on your path to self discovery! That is, by joining things such as belly dancing classes, quilting groups, volleyball teams, and other such groups. Even if it is something you would not ordinarily consider, you might find out amazing things about yourself! I know a woman who had no previous desire to crochet, but took a local crochet class, and found out she had a real knack for it! This past Christmas she gave me a beautiful sweater she had learned to make.
All of these things will help you on your path to finding your authentic self. When you are on that path, never ever get discouraged, because the answers are always there hidden somewhere within you!
